Johnny Cash’s drummer to beat for CMHA

Fans of Johnny Cash in Cornwall won’t want to miss an upcoming performance and fundraiser for Canadian Mental Health Association.

The Ring of Fire: A Johnny Cash Experience will be playing in at the Port Theatre in Cornwall on June 17.

Cash fans are in for an additional treat, as Cash’s long-time drummer, WS “Fluke” Holland, will play with the tribute band.

“There are some tribute artists that preserve the legacy of John with a sincere dedication that simply stands out above the rest,” Holland said. “The Ring of Fire: A Johnny Cash Experience brings back so many memories to me of my nearly four decades of working side by side with Johnny Cash.”

Dubbed “Cash for PTSD” this concert tour is bringing mental health awareness to fans in this community.

When you ask Andy Vickers, frontman for Ring of Fire: A Johnny Cash Experience, why the band is supporting the CMHA, he tells the story of a stalwart Cash fan who suffers from PTSD.

Thrilled to win tickets to one of the band’s shows, this fan was ultimately unable to attend due to his struggles. Vickers and his band wanted to go the extra mile.

“I offered to bring the band to him, for a private acoustic show of all his favourite Cash tunes but still, his PTSD had shown its power and completely controlled his social life.”

This man’s battle with PTSD inspired the band to donate its proceeds to the cause. Vickers was attracted to CMHA’s vision of a mentally healthy Canada, saying mental health problems also touch him personally.

“I know many people and close friends who suffer from mental health conditions who miss out on life’s treasures.”
