The Canadian Mental Health Association - Champlain East is a community-based agency dedicated to providing community support services to persons living with a mental illness and concurrent disorders.  Our Branch has been designated under the French Language Services Act since 1991 and as such, is committed to providing services in both official languages (French and English).

 

Job Description

 

POSITION TITLE:                             Mental Health Promotor 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:       To initiate, coordinate and/or present mental health promotion activities designed to improve attitudes towards mental illness, promote mental health and prevent mental illness.

ACCOUNTABILITY:                         To the Manager of Mental Health Promotion 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma in Human Services, Social Services or B.A. in Education, Child / Youth Worker or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience and comfort level in developing and delivering public presentations.
  • A good understanding of learning styles and delivery methods.
  • Knowledge of the social services and/or health field, including local resources.
  • Must be well organized and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is an asset and for designated positions, proficiency in both official languages is a requirement as per the Branch`s French language Designation Plan.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (some evening and weekend hours may be required).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

Program

  • Act as primary contact for mental health promotion activities of the branch.
  • Supervise volunteer speakers and assist in preparing and evaluating presentation materials.
  • Organize / Deliver workshops for students, community organizations, volunteer groups, professional groups and local businesses.
  • Provide information for the public by means of resource materials, articles, newsletter, workshops and events throughout the year and during educational campaigns.
  • Coordinate media coverage throughout the year and during awareness campaigns.
  • Ensure that any editorials or submission to media are approved by the Manager of Mental Health Promotion prior to their release.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Branch website and where appropriate, provide training to support / resource staff.
  • Link workshop participants to appropriate services / resources as required.
  • To participate in program sustainability initiatives such as fundraisers and other events.
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of mental health promotion materials for the Branch.
  • Work with other agencies and/or services to coordinate mental health promotion materials/messages.
  • Serve as a resource person to volunteers and staff of the Branch.
  • Enter and collect data relevant for program evaluation.

 

Other

  • Participate in program development, improvement activities and staff meetings.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Identify gaps and needed modifications in services and bring these to the attention of your immediate supervisor.
  • Works in programs of the Branch, and can be transferred from one program to another as the needs arise and/or the Branch sees fit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designate.
