The Canadian Mental Health Association - Champlain East is a community-based agency dedicated to providing community support services to persons living with a mental illness and concurrent disorders.  Our Branch has been designated under the French Language Services Act since 1991 and as such, is committed to providing services in both official languages (French and English).

Manager of Mental Health Promotion and Volunteers


PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:        Responsible for the day-to-day programming activities of the Mental Health Promotion Program and management of Branch volunteers


 ACCOUNTABILITY:                          Executive Director




  • University Degree in one of the Social Services, College Diploma/B.A. in Marketing/Education or a certificate in Fundraising Management, Volunteer Management combined with three years of direct experience in a non-profit, management position, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in project management, fundraising planning and managing volunteer resources
  • Demonstrated leadership with successful marketing and communication plans and strategies
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of mental health and addictions
  • Familiarity with Recovery Philosophy and awareness of the needs of diverse communities is an asset
  • Knowledge of the social services and/or health field, including local resources
  • Well organized and able to work independently and as part of a team



  • Proficiency in both official languages is a requirement as per the Branch’s French Language Designation Plan

  • Ability to organize time and prioritize tasks to achieve objectives, demonstrating organization, planning & coordination skills
  • Comfort level with public speaking
  • Ability to deal tactfully with a diverse group of people internally and externally
  • Ability to motivate, influence and maintain partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, community groups, corporate and government leaders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in virtual platforms, such as MS Teams
  • Demonstrates initiative when appropriate and is willing to learn new skills
  • Demonstrated ability to observe boundaries, engage in appropriate emotional regulation, refrain from dual relationships with clients/volunteers
  • Engage in reasonable self-care strategies that incorporate balancing work/life responsibilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills



  • Interface with community organizations, the media and other stakeholders to promote the agency, develop a positive relationship with the community, and participate in community meetings as required.
  • Responsible for adherence to the program budgets and making budget recommendations to the Executive Director.
  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of public information and promotion
  • Act as the spokesperson for promotional campaigns
  • Research, develop and submit funding applications to support Branch programs
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities
  • Maintain an up-to-date database and prepare funder evaluation reports
  • Recruit volunteers and implement retention strategies
  • Manage orientation process and training for new volunteers
  • Work closely with all program and department managers to ensure that volunteer positions are sufficiently filled to meet program needs
  • Support and train program staff working directly with volunteers
  • Research and draft volunteer policies and procedures
  • Supervise and evaluate Mental Health Promoters and program volunteers
